I love the start of a new day, I find it very exciting!
I’ve long had a real fondness for pausing just before I open the bedroom curtains, in the mornings, to remember there’s a whole new day waiting for me to do whatever I want with it.
I can waste it, if I choose to; I can make the most of it and try to cram in as much as possible, but it’s all mine and I can choose.
Most of it’s planned but there is always that unknown element to every day, where you just have no idea what’s going to happen.
Maybe someone you haven’t heard from for a long time gets back in touch and takes you by surprise; perhaps an opportunity arises that you hadn’t seen coming or had even considered before it came and ‘knocked’ on your door.
Opening the curtains in the morning is like unveiling a blank canvas and YOU get to paint a new picture on it every day, I LOVE THAT!
It’s up to you what you draw; it’s up to you whether you use watercolours, oil or pastels and it’s up to you to choose the colours.
Some days your pictures won’t quite turn out to be the masterpiece you originally had in mind; some days they’ll just be plain rubbish, which is okay if you work out WHY and learn something from that.
But, regardless of whether you created a masterpiece or a mess, the good news is this: the following morning, when you open the curtains, a brand new blank canvas is waiting for you to make your mark on it.
I love closing the curtains just as much as I do opening them – apart from because it means it’s bedtime and I love being in my bed 😀
If the day hasn’t been so great it’s nice to shut the curtains on it and consign it to the history books. If it’s been great then the promise of a new day tomorrow that could be just as great again, is rather exciting.
I’m a creature of habit but I also love being spontaneous and having to juggle several things at once for work when the odd ‘can you just do this for me…and I need it in half an hour!’ lands on my desk – but I like to end each day the same way.
Bed, soft lights, a candle burning, night time tea and classical music in the background whilst I look at, and reflect on, the picture I drew on my canvas for that day.
(I’d just like to say that I haven’t really gone all Christmassy two months ahead of time with a Christmas candle – it was sent to me to review and is utterly delicious! It smells of orange and cinnamon and I’m going to be rather sad when it’s all burned away)
This quiet time in bed is also the when I plan out the following day – lay out my brushes, pencils and colours you might say.
So by the time I blow out the candle and switch the light off, my mind is pretty clear and I can SLEEP for my six pack.
I read a great article the other day on why getting enough sleep is a very important part of achieving your physical goals – I’ll dig it out and link to it tomorrow.
There’s lots going on here behind the scenes – if you’ve got in touch recently I’ll be getting back to you as soon as I can!
Right, talking of sleep…it’s time for me to get some! I hope you painted a great picture on your ‘life canvas’ today 😀
See you tomorrow

15/10/2010 at 11:49 amI love the thought of a blank canvas. How many times have we brought over crap from the day before? It’s time for me to start the day renewed and refreshed with the thought of “What can I paint on my canvas today?”
thanks.
